Consensus gentium
THE FILM THAT WATCHES YOU BACK
Consensus Gentium, directed by Karen Palmer, is an interactive film that explores the implications of today’s technologies, taking audiences on a unique quest to discover the potential consequences of unchecked surveillance. Participants are transported into the middle of a narrative set within the smartphone in the center of their hands, simulating the experience of a potential future world and immersing them in the story.
What People Are Saying
“It is a compelling new way to tell a story in way that is native to our most intimate screen: the smartphone… There were a few moments when I thought the messages I was reading on my smartphone were for me.”
— Charlie Fink, Forbes Magazine
“What this piece does is translate this very real potential future into a visceral and immersive story that has the real potential of bringing broader awareness to these vital issues around the future of our cognitive liberty.”
— Kent Bye, Voices of VR
“Consensus Gentium is such a thought-provoking work that challenges the viewer to think about everyday technology by immersing us into a real story world based around the tech.”
— Mia Bays, British Film Institute

OUR part in the story
Immersify Studio paired up with Karen Palmer and team to create this film experience. We created an interactive application for playing a non-traditional film, which includes features such as face-tracking, gaze tracking, and film narrative branching. We are enthusiastic about bringing this exciting medium to mobile devices – an entirely new form of storytelling.
